Belgravia Group commits to boosting physical activity among 1 million children in Australia

Million Kids Initiative Belgravia Group

Belgravia Group Chairman and CEO, Geoff Lord, confirmed his commitment to boosting physical activity among one million children across Australia per year, at a Belgravia Foundation industry breakfast in Melbourne in 2018.

“Belgravia Group is going to achieve this target through our new initiatives, Belgravia Kids (incorporating JUMP! Swim Schools, BK’s Gymnastics, BK’s Learn to Swim, and the Belgravia Foundation,” Mr Lord said.

Belgravia Foundation is a registered charity established to connect people with a disability or experiencing disadvantage to a Belgravia Group aquatic, fitness, sports or recreation facility in over 200 locations across Australian metropolitan and regional areas.

“People who face financial hardship, distress, inequity or other barriers will be able to get help from the Belgravia Foundation,” Mr Lord said.
Belgravia Kids will provide swimming and water safety lessons and gymnastics for children and teens in a vibrant community hub in Australia’s growth suburbs.
“Belgravia Kids will be a safe space for children to play, learn and be engaged in their community,” Mr Lord said.
Both organisations will work in partnership with Belgravia Group’s health and leisure companies and franchise networks, Belgravia Leisure, Genesis Fitness, Coaching Zone, Ninja Parc, Australian Sports Camps and Community Sports Camps, to improve health and wellbeing outcomes among people in Australia’s marginalised communities, as well as children across the country.
“I believe we can do more to tackle the increasingly sedentary lifestyle of our children, which can lead to chronic conditions such as obesity, Type 2 Diabetes and heart disease,” Mr Lord said.

The latest Active Healthy Kids Australia (AHKA) report card scored Australia a D- in overall physical activity levels.
“The Belgravia Foundation will work hand in glove with Belgravia Group health and leisure facilities to engage children in physical activity and good old fashioned face-to-face social interaction,” Mr Lord said.

We’re on a mission to get kids active!
The surprising reality in Australia today is that four out of five children don’t get enough daily physical activity and it’s estimated that by 2025, a third of our children will be overweight or obese.

We want to get kids active again by creating a fun environment where they can learn fundamental movement skills. Research tells us that active kids are happy kids – they perform better in a range of developmental indicators.

We think that learning to swim and to move are the two best ways to get kids active, keep them safe and give them a gift that can be used for the rest of their lives.
“Through our dedicated kids leisure and recreation businesses, we are another step closer to reaching our goal,” said Belgravia Group Executive Director Alex Lord.

JUMP! Swim Schools, BK’s Gymnastics, Ninja Parc, BK’s Learn to Swim, Australian Sports Camps, The Dance Society are all proudly part of the Belgravia Group, supporting the Group aim to get one million kids across Australia active each year.

“We want to make a difference to the health and wellbeing of Australian kids and help them develop a love of movement that will last a lifetime. With engaging and supportive environments, we can positively influence a significant number of children.”
